Night vision on a baby monitor is a great feature to have. It allows you to see your baby in the dark, and it can also save you from accidentally rolling over them in the middle of the night.
However, if your night vision isn’t working, there are several things that could be causing it.
Here are some of the most common reasons why your baby monitor’s night vision isn’t working, along with tips for fixing it:
The Indoor Lighting is On
The first reason why the baby monitor’s night vision not working is that the indoor lighting is on.
The baby monitor works by using infrared technology, which means it needs to be able to see in the dark.
If there is too much light or if you have a lot of lamps on in your house, the night vision feature will not work properly.
To fix this problem, just turn off all the lamps in your home and make sure there are no lights coming from the outside or inside your home.
The Power Supply Needs to be Checked
Another reason why baby monitor’s night vision not working is because your power supply might be broken.
If you have bought your baby monitor recently and it has stopped working properly, then you should check whether or not your power supply needs to be replaced with a new one.
Most of these types of monitors use batteries to operate, so if you’re having trouble seeing anything on your monitor, it’s likely because the battery needs to be replaced.
You should also check and make sure that your power supply is plugged into an outlet that has power coming from it; if not, then you won’t be able to use your monitor at all.
The Camera Lens is Dirty
The most common reason that a baby monitor’s night vision is not working is because the camera lens is dirty.
If you have a wireless baby monitor, then you may need to clean the camera lens with a soft cloth.
You should do this regularly to ensure that it remains in optimal condition, but if you have not cleaned your camera for a long time, then it will probably be best to clean it before trying to see what the problem is.
The best way to clean it is by using a microfiber cloth and rubbing gently until the dirt comes off easily.
You should also check if any dust particles have gotten inside of the lens housing as well because this could cause issues as well.
If you notice any dust inside of the housing, try blowing or vacuuming them out so that they don’t interfere with the image quality any more.
This should help improve your viewing experience significantly.
There are Issues with the Cables
If there are issues with the cables or wires of your baby monitor, then this can also cause problems with its night vision capabilities.
If you have recently moved or changed rooms and this has affected the cables or wires in any way, then this could also be an issue when you try to use your baby monitor at night time.
In order to fix these issues, you will need to make sure that everything is plugged into the correct ports and that there are no loose connections anywhere on your device.
Some of the Components are Defective
If your baby monitor has night vision, then there are at least two components inside that need to work in order for it to work properly.
One of those components is the infrared LED lights.
These little lights produce heat instead of light and they allow you to see your baby in the dark through the lens on your device. If one or more of these LEDs are defective or broken, then this will definitely cause problems with your night vision feature.
Another possible problem with infrared LEDS is that they might be clogged with dust or dirt from being used so much by so many people over time (especially if you have children).
If this happens, then you’ll need to take apart your monitor and clean out all of its components before trying again.
Stuck in Demo Mode
Some baby monitors come with a demo mode that shows what each feature looks like when it’s activated.
If you accidentally turn this on while trying to use the device, then you may have trouble getting it off again because the controls will be locked until you press a certain combination of buttons in order to reset everything back to normal.

Firmware Update Required
If your baby monitor is not working as it should, first check to see if there is a firmware update available for your particular model.
The easiest way to find out if there is an update is by going to the manufacturer’s website and typing in the model number.
If there is an update available, it will usually be a small file that must be downloaded to your computer and then transferred over to the monitor via USB cable.
Most of these updates are installed simply by running them on your computer and following any on-screen instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Once complete, unplug the monitor from its power source, wait 30 seconds and then plug it back in again.
This usually starts the updating process automatically and will take anywhere from 5-30 minutes depending on how large of an update it is and how old your monitor was when you bought it.
Battery Temperatures Too Cold
Some monitors need batteries for power and some do not. If your monitor uses batteries, make sure that they are fully charged before trying to use them again.
Batteries can lose power when they get too cold (below freezing). Make sure that there is no ice on top of them or in their cases before putting them back into service.
The next step to consider is whether or not your baby monitor has been exposed to extremely cold temperatures.
The device may have become too cold and needs to warm back up before it will work again. If this is the problem, then simply let the device sit out in a room with a temperature between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 30 minutes before using again.
The first thing you need to do is unplug the monitor from the wall outlet and leave it unplugged for about 15 minutes. This will allow any residual power to dissipate from the unit.
Once the time has passed, plug the monitor back in and turn it on. If there is no change after this step, then you will need to replace the battery.
The batteries of a baby monitor are usually AA or AAA sized batteries, so if you do not have any already, go ahead and purchase some before continuing with this process.
Once you have your batteries on hand, open up the back cover of your baby monitor (using a small Phillips screwdriver if necessary) and remove all of its batteries (if they are inside).
You may want to write down which ones were in which slot on their corresponding connector so that you can place these new ones back in exactly where they were before removing them (this will make it easier when putting everything back together).
Now take out your new set of batteries and pop them into their corresponding slots on their connectors.
Once all 4 batteries have been placed into their slots on their respective connectors, close up your baby monitor’s back cover again and plug it back into an electrical outlet once more.
Check Your Network Connections
If you are connecting your baby monitor wirelessly to your smartphone or tablet via Wi-Fi, make sure that both devices are within range of each other and that there aren’t any obstructions between them (such as walls).
If there are obstructions present between these devices, try moving them closer together or changing locations if possible.
The Camera Is Out Of Range
This is perhaps the most common reason why people have trouble with their cameras’ night vision. It’s also one that is easily fixed by changing where your camera is placed or moving closer to it.
If you’re using an indoor baby monitor, try placing it closer to a window so that there are more outside lights shining into the room.
If you’re using an outdoor baby monitor, try moving it closer to a lamp so that there are more indoor lights shining outside onto your porch or deck.
The Camera’s Light Sensor Is Broken
A lot of modern baby monitors have an infrared (IR) light sensor that turns off the camera’s white LEDs when it gets dark.
Unfortunately, these IR sensors have been known to break down over time. If this happens in yours, then your camera will always be on and you’ll never be able to turn off its lights at night.
You can usually fix this problem by simply replacing your monitor’s batteries or unplugging it for a few minutes and then plugging it back in again (this resets all its settings).
You should also check if there’s any dust or dirt blocking an IR port on your monitor—this can cause problems too.

Night vision is one of the most important features for any baby monitor. It allows you to see your child at night without turning on a light, which can be both helpful and dangerous.
If your camera’s night vision isn’t working, it can be incredibly frustrating. Whether it’s a problem with the camera itself or a problem with your WiFi connection, there are many reasons why this might happen.
We hope that this blog has shed some light on how you can diagnose and solve this issue.
