What is the Easiest Way to Cancel your Audible Membership?

Can You Cancel Audible from the Mobile App?

Audible’s mobile app is a convenient way to listen to audiobooks and take them wherever you go.

However, despite having the ability to access a huge library of titles, download books for offline listening, and use all of the playback features you could want – there is one thing it cannot do.

That’s right, you cannot cancel a subscription with Audible from the Audible mobile app.

Unfortunately, there’s no way around this, but that’s not to say that you cannot cancel your membership from your mobile device.

On the contrary, canceling your Audible subscription can be done on mobile, but just not with the Audible mobile app.

How do You Cancel the Monthly Payments to Audible?

Canceling your monthly payment plan with Audible will differ in the process depending on how you signed up with Audible in the first place.

There are three ways you can sign up for a membership with Audible:

  1. With iOS app
  2. With Google Play
  3. With Audible’s website

Below you can find details on how to cancel your Audible membership in whatever way you first signed up.

Here’s How to Cancel an Audible Website Membership Plan:

These steps will work irrespective of what device you are using; all you need to do is navigate to Audible.com.

  1. Log in to your Audible account.
  2. Tap/Click ‘Account Details’
  3. Tap/Click ‘Cancel membership’
  4. Select your reason for wanting to terminate your membership.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions, and once completed, an email will be sent to you to confirm that your membership is canceled.

Here’s How to Cancel an Audible Google Play Membership Plan:

  1. Launch the Google Play Store app.
  2. Bring up your ‘Profile Menu’ by tapping your profile picture found in the top right of your screen.
  3. Next, select ‘Payments and Subscriptions’
  4. Now choose ‘Subscriptions’
  5. Search and find ‘Audible’
  6. Choose ‘Cancel Subscription’

If you do not have the option to cancel your subscription on the Google Play Store app, then this indicates that you signed up with your Audible account on their website. Use the previous guide for canceling website memberships.

Here’s How to Cancel an Audible iOS App Membership Plan:

  1. Navigate to ‘Settings’ on your iOS device.
  2. Select your name followed by ‘Subscriptions’
    • If you do not have the option to tap ‘Subscriptions’ then select ‘iTunes & App Stores’, tap ‘Apple ID’ followed by ‘View Apple ID’. Sign in now if necessary and then find ‘Subscriptions’ from the list and tap it.
  3. Search and tap Audible to manage the subscription.

If you tried the above methods for canceling your membership with Audible and cross-checked how you signed up in the first place to ensure you are using the correct steps, but had no luck, then you should head over to customer support.

Audible does offer an extensive support page that has articles and answers on Audible-related issues, ranging from technical problems to troubleshooting cancelation.

However, if you’ve exhausted all your options, then it’s best to get in touch with Audible directly. This can be done from their ‘Contact Us’ page.

From here, you are given three options on how to proceed:

  1. Via phone
  2. Via online chat
  3. Or via email

If you choose the option to speak to someone over the phone, which Audible recommends, you will be brought to a page in which you need to select which country you are in, followed by your phone number.

Audible will call you, but you can choose whether they call you now or in 5 minutes.

You can also decide to start a live chat with an Audible representative, just begin by typing your issue into the chat box and then wait for a reply.

Finally, you can send them an email instead, but you will have to wait for a response.

If you need help with canceling your membership with Audible, it is worth getting them to ring you and work through the issue in real-time. 

Can you Get a Refund When you Cancel Audible?

Canceling an Audible membership does not mean that you can expect a refund.

When you cancel your membership with Audible, you will cease making future monthly payments, and access to the Plus Catalog will be terminated.

The books that you purchased, be that with a credit card or with Audible credits, will not be returned, and neither will you receive a refund for them.

You can choose to return Audible books individually for refunds so long as it is within 365 days from the time of purchase.

However, it is important to understand that canceling your membership will not result in a refund of the purchased audiobooks.

The good news is that you’ll get to keep the books you purchased forever. Canceling your Audible membership does not prevent you from using the app or your library of collected audio content.

Audible states in its terms and conditions that:

“If you cancel your membership or subscription, you will not receive a refund of any fees already paid. Your member benefits terminate when your membership is cancelled, but cancellation does not terminate your license and access to purchased content.”

It’s also worth remembering that when you cancel an Audible membership that was created on Audible.com, you will lose any remaining credits you have accrued.

Therefore, it is advisable to spend all of your credits before deciding to cancel, as the audiobooks you purchase with credits will be yours to keep even after you complete the cancelation process.

What is the Difference Between Pausing & Canceling Audible?

Pausing your Audible membership has one major difference that sets it apart from canceling.

With your Audible membership paused, you can still spend the credits that you have gained on audiobooks and keep them forever.

As previously mentioned, once you cancel your Audible membership, all of your remaining credits will be lost unless of course, your membership was made with the iOS app or Google Play.

However, it is worth noting that iOS app and Google Play memberships will not have the ability to pause their subscriptions. Pausing a membership plan is, for the moment, exclusive to Audible.com memberships.

To pause your Audible membership:

  1. Head to the Audible website.
  2. Navigate to ‘Account Details’
  3. Next, select ‘Pause Membership’

Pausing a membership will last 3 months, but can be lifted earlier by contacting Audible directly.

Despite being able to spend credits, you will lose access to the Plus Catalog while your membership is on pause.
