When Does Spotify Send Notifications? (7 Scenarios Checked)

Spotify, like many other apps, sends users notifications for a host of reasons.

This article delves into those reasons. This will help you to be aware of what notifications you are expected to receive and when other users will be notified of your Spotify activity.

Here’s when Spotify Sends Notifications:

Spotify can notify you via email or push notifications. You can opt to receive notifications about news, promotions, concerts, artist updates, security updates, and more. To enable push notifications, you must allow notifications for Spotify in your phone settings.

Does Spotify Notify other Users when you Follow or Unfollow Them?

Are you concerned that someone will find out that you have either followed or unfollowed them? Fear not.

Spotify does not send notifications about your following activity. However, there is a way that a user can find out about this.

All Spotify users have a ‘Followers’ heading on their profile page together with the number of followers. If you follow someone, that number will increase.

They can view your profile if they click on the ‘Followers’ marker.

Here’s how to view your followers:

    1. Hit the gear icon in the top right corner.
    2. Click on your profile name.
    3. Tap the ‘Followers’ heading.

If a user follows the above process, they will be able to see if you are one of their followers.

Does Spotify Notify other Users when you Like their Playlist?

The online sphere is all about the likes. Fortunately, there is no way that a user can find out the names of other users who liked their Spotify playlist.

That said, users can find out how many likes their playlist generated.

To do this, you must:

  1. Open the Spotify app
  2. Click on ‘Your Library’.
  3. Click on your Display Picture.
  4. Hit ‘View Profile’  then ‘Playlists’

Now, you can find the total likes under each playlist.

Does Spotify Notify other Users when you Block Someone?

The downside of user-friendly online platforms is that they can sometimes attract unsavory characters. Luckily, Spotify introduced the blocking feature.

Spotify will not alert that user if you choose to block them.

Furthermore, after that user has been blocked, they will be prevented from viewing your profile or your other activity.

Does Spotify Notify the Owner when you Play or Like a Playlist?

Spotify has become the focus of a debate surrounding how much activity data it gathers from users.

You will be given a measure of privacy as the owner will not be able to identify who is listening to or liking the music on their playlist.

However, an owner can see how many people like their content.

As mentioned earlier, this information can be found under the playlist’s description.

Does Spotify Notify users when you Visit their Profile?

Someone can speculate that if you are a follower then you have viewed their profile, which is the reason behind you following them.

However, at the time of writing, there is no feature that tracks views on users’ profiles.

The app will not divulge such information as Spotify is not categorized fully as a social network site. Anything to the contrary will be at odds with Spotify’s developer agreement.

Spotify was not originally designed as a social media or connecting platform. Its primary purpose is to be a content streaming application for users to add music.

Users can follow other users and listen to their playlists.

Also, Spotify doesn’t permit a third-party application to assist users in identifying who has visited their profile.

Do Spotify Artists know when you Add their Songs to a Playlist?

Spotify artists do, in fact, get notified when you add their tracks to your playlists.

Recently, singer Kira Kosarin, spoke about this in a video on a popular social media platform, which has garnered almost 10 million views.

In the video clip, the singer mentioned the names of some playlists displaying her songs. Some noteworthy (or unusual) names of these playlists are “Can’t stop reading fan fictions,” “Let’s be depressed” and “Songs to walk your dog to.”

This is useful information for an artist who is hoping to understand their fanbase. It can be used for marketing purposes for future projects.
