Why Are My Headphones Not Pairing?

Commons reasons for headphones being unable to pair include being in use by another device, device not in range, or simply the headphones’ battery is drained.

If another device is using your headphones, it’s best to disconnect the current connection before pairing to another device. Not all headphones can unpair from existing devices when paired to a new one.

Second, headphones are best paired within a meter from the source device. While Bluetooth can play long-distance, it’s not always recommended to stay too far, especially when pairing.

Can You Pair Bluetooth Headphones to Multiple Devices?

You can pair Bluetooth headphones to multiple devices, but not all headphones can switch quickly between devices.

When you pair your headphones to different devices, they will pair to the last device connected before shutting down or unpairing.

If you pair your headphones to your phone, tablet, and smartphone, with the tablet being the last pairing, it will go to the tablet first, provided it is within range.

That said, it’s an excellent investment to get Bluetooth headphones that allow for quick switching to avoid the cumbersome task of unpairing to switch between devices.

Headphones that do this include the Sony XM4.

Final Thoughts

Pairing your headphones is a relatively easy thing to do, and there’s a slight variation between brands.

If you decide to change headphones, later on, it’s easy to switch without any learning curve once you get acquainted with your old Bluetooth set.
