Audible Forget Where I Left off & Restarts My Book (Solved)

It can be incredibly frustrating when you lose your last listening position on Audible, especially when the chapters are over an hour or so long.

Sifting through such lengthy chapters and trying to find exactly where you were can be a process that requires some patience.

Audible can forget your last listening point for a few reasons, such as losing internet connection, or if your Audible app is out-of-date.

In this article, you can get to grips with why Audible may lose its place in your audiobook and how to solve this problem.

The Reasons Why Audible Forgets Where You Left Off

Audible might sometimes forget where a user is within the audiobook because of:

  • The Audible app has malfunctioned because it needs to be updated or requires re-installation.
  • Internet connection has been lost during playback and was not established at the time of shut down.
  • The device has not been synced.

Why Does Audible Keep Restarting Books From The Beginning?

Some users have reported that their Audible app keeps restarting the book, losing any trace of their last listening point.

Fortunately, there are a few, easily resolvable, reasons as to why Audible keeps restarting your audiobook – just take a look below:

Your Audible App Needs An Update

All apps, not just Audible, need to be regularly updated. Doing so improves security, keeps you updated with any new design features, and more importantly, fixes any virus or bug issues that may be occurring.

When Audible keeps restarting your audiobook, it may be time to check if your app needs an update.

To Update Audible On iOS:

  1. On your Home Screen, Tap on the App Store icon.
  2. Tap on Search and type “Audible”.
    • If Audible needs updating, you will see an Update App option.
  3. Tap on the Update App option if applicable, and the update will start automatically.

To Update Audible On An Android Device:

  1. On your Home Screen go to Google Play Store.
  2. Search “Audible” in the search bar.
  3. Next to the apps icon you will see an update option if there is a new update.
  4. Tap this, and the update will begin automatically.

It’s Restarting Due To Inadequate WiFi

If you exit the app, and you are not connected to the internet, Audible can forget your place in the book and restart it from the beginning when you next go to listen.

This is because, in order to automatically save your position, Audible needs to be connected to the internet.

Therefore, always ensure that the device you are using has a stable connection to the internet when you are using Audible.

Your App Needs Re-installing

If Audible keeps restarting your book, it can mean there is an issue within the app itself.

The best way to solve this is to delete and uninstall the app, then reinstall it again.

Don’t worry, deleting the Audible app will not delete any of your data and once you log back in you will have access to your account again.

How To Delete & Reinstall Audible App On iOS:

  1. Press and hold Audible’s app icon.
  2. Choose ‘Remove App’.
  3. Go to the App Store.
  4. Search ‘Audible’ and tap Install.

How To Delete & Reinstall Audible On Android:

  1. Open Google Play Store.
  2. On your profile, scroll and tap ‘Manage Apps & Devices’.
  3. Tap ‘Manage’.
  4. Scroll and find Audible, and choose Uninstall.
  5. Go back to Google Play Store’s home, and type ‘Audible’ in the search bar.
  6. Tap ‘Install’ to reinstall the app on your android device.

There’s A Glitch With The Sync

If Audible keeps forgetting where you are in your audiobook, it may be due to a problem with the sync.

To solve this, try toggling the “Sync Device Position” by following the steps below:

  1. Locate the profile icon in the app.
  2. Tap ‘Settings’.
  3. Tap ‘Player’.
  4. In this menu, when you scroll down you will see ‘Sync Device Positon’.
  5. Try toggling this off, then on again.

How Do You Make Audible Save Your Position Automatically?

Audible will always automatically save your position when you exit the app, so there is no need to look into how to do this manually.

On rare occasions, Audible may experience issues and your position can be lost.

To avoid this happening, always ensure you are connected to the internet and update your Audible app when you are able to do so.

Saved clips are located in the “Clips & bookmarks” section.

Here, users have the option to either play the clip back or “go to bookmark”, which takes the listener to the exact beginning point of the saved clip.
