What Is the Range Of Infant Optics Baby Monitors? (Checked)

It’s important to ensure that your monitor has a good range so that you don’t have to constantly walk back and forth from where you’re watching the monitor to your baby’s room.

In this article we will talk about the range of Infant Optic baby monitors and the various factors that go into range for these devices.

Let’s get started

Here’s the Range of Infant Optics Baby Monitors:

The range for Infant Optics Baby Monitors is 500-1,000 feet. The DXR-8 model has a range of 500 feet and the DXR-8 Pro model has an extended range of 1,000 feet. It’s important to note that this will vary depending on your home layout, walls, and other factors.

What Infant Optics Baby Monitor Has the Best Range?

The Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro Video Baby Monitor has the best range with a maximum range of 1,000 feet — more than double that of the other monitor in the lineup.

The manufacturer says the signal will work up to 1,000 feet away from the camera and still be clear.

Please note that these baby monitors do not work with Wi-Fi. They work over another set of frequencies of radio waves and there are 4 channels you can choose from for the video signal to ensure you still get a good connection if there are other devices interfering with the current frequencies.

The DXR-8 also has some unique features that make it more user-friendly than some other baby monitors.

It has a two-way talk feature that allows you to speak to your baby from anywhere in your home and a nightlight on its handheld parent unit that lets you see when your little one is awake.

A rechargeable battery means you can take it with you anywhere you go without worrying about cables or cords.

The DXR-8 also has many convenient features:

  • It has an adjustable camera angle,
  • a zoom feature,
  • two-way communication,
  • automatic volume adjustment (sounds loudest when baby cries),
  • sound activation,
  • the ability to remotely move the camera (pan/tilt/zoom), as well as infrared night vision capability.

The Infant Optics monitors also have what is called “Adoptive Frequency Hopping” (FHSS) technology. This allows the devices to which between different channels automatically for minimal interference.

How Long Do Baby Monitors Generally Reach?

Baby monitors usually have a range of about 600-700 feet. However, if you live in a large house or have thick walls, you may need to get a more powerful monitor.

If you plan to use your monitor in two rooms at once, you’ll want to look for a system that has two receivers instead of one. This way, you can keep track of your baby from anywhere in your home.

When selecting a baby monitor, you should consider the amount of space your home has and whether the room where the baby sleeps is small enough for the receiver to be placed on furniture near the crib (or at least within range of the crib).

Some monitors come with screens that allow you to view your infant from another room, while others offer audio-only options.

Although these devices can be helpful in monitoring your child’s safety, they may not be as useful if you want to keep tabs on him while they’re sleeping.

How Stable Is the Signal Over Longer Distances?

The Infant Optics DXR-8 has a range of up to 500 feet and the bigger Pro model has double that range.

This is quite good for the average size house, however, it may not be suitable if you have a larger home with more than one level.

The signal is not reliant on Wi-Fi or DECT technology and should be a good stable solution as you can switch between 4 different radio frequencies (channels) to ensure you get a good uninterrupted signal going.

When using the DXR-8 monitor over longer distances, such as inside your home or outside in your backyard, you may experience some interference or static noise coming through the audio monitor speakers due to an unstable signal.

That’s when the device should change channel by itself (Adoptive Frequency Hopping (FHSS) technology). Shifting to a different channel automatically for minimal interference from other devices.

This is especially true if there are other wireless devices nearby like Wi-Fi routers or cordless phones which use similar frequencies as your baby monitor transmitter frequency band (2.4 GHz).

Can You Extend the Range of Infant Optics Baby Monitors?

The video monitors can reach up to 500 feet indoors (the DXR-8 model) and up to 1,000 feet (the DXR-8 Pro).

If you’re handy and can do a bit of soldering, you can easily exchange the antenna on the baby unit. It’s not that difficult.

You just need to exchange the antenna.

We have a quick video here showing you how to do that:

The trick is to locate the small antenna inside the device (that may or may not look exactly like the one in the video).

It typically looks like a “folded-out” paper click.

When you have dislocated this little antenna you can use the soldering iron to insert a female mounting head for a regular Wi-Fi antenna to give your device a much better range.

By doing this you should easily be able to bump up the range of the baby monitor to 2,000 feet or more.

But remember, you will no longer have a warranty on the device, so you probably shouldn’t do this unless you have done some soldering before 😉

Why Does My Infant Optics Baby Monitor Say “Out of Range”?

One common issue is that you may notice that your monitor is showing “out of range” or “no connection.”

There are a few things you should check before calling customer service:

  • Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into the back of the monitor and into the wall socket. If you have a spare power outlet near your child’s crib, try plugging the monitor into that one to see if it works. If it does, then you know that the outlet you were using wasn’t working properly.
  • If your monitor still isn’t working after checking these things, try resetting it by shutting it off and turning it on again.
